Wobbegong Shark Selfie

October 14, 2014

Raja Ampat - I’ve never encountered a wobbegong shark before, hence I was pretty excited to see the bearded shark. A type of carpet shark, the wobbegong is not small; about 1 metre in length. It is however difficult to spot. As its name suggests, it just dwells dormant on the sea floor camouflaged with its surroundings.

I had no idea how to compose a good picture of the wobbegong, as it just sat motionless and blended into the background. I figured, since it did not seem to want to bite me, taking a selfie with it was the best way to go.
