International Photography Awards 2026

I call this image “The Widest Smile.” The whale shark certainly appears happy, likely because the fisherman is feeding it from a fishing platform known as a “Bagan.” The whale shark is probably also content because the fisherman could have chosen to poach it for its fins instead.

Despite its controversial nature, the whale shark contributes to additional income from tourism and is protected by the fisherman and villagers.

I’m pleased to share that this image received an Honorable Mention in the 2026 International Photography Awards.
